Staff and payroll
Approve the month's payroll once and every employee is recorded in salaries payable. Pay each one when you pay them, and anyone unpaid stays visible.

Accrue first, pay later
Approving the payroll posts salaries expense against salaries payable, one line per employee. Paying moves the amount from salaries payable to cash or bank.
Attendance, advances and bonuses
Record absence, lateness and overtime; advances are deducted from pay in installments; bonuses are added to the payroll.
Penalties in their place
A staff penalty is deducted from pay and posted to "staff penalties" under other income, so salaries expense keeps its true value.
